Objectives for launch

Second Bristol logo

Slivers of Time is part of Bristol's Ultra Flexible Working programme, which aims to realise crosscutting business, community and environmental benefits, including:

  • Creating more flexible job opportunities for people who face particular obstacles in gaining employment
  • Helping lone parents, unemployed people and those on incapacity benefits to secure flexible employment
  • Creating an ultra flexible jobs market place that will bring wider economic benefits to the Bristol city region
  • Supporting Bristol’s ambitions to be a Green Capital by improving access to local services, training and work - reducing the need for peak-time commuting

Current status

Slivers of Time Co-ordinator (Stephen Hewitt) was appointed in June 2008. A soft launch within Bristol City Council took place on 8 July 2008.

Over the summer follow-up meetings will take place with BCC managers and existing pools of  casual labour will be transferred onto Slivers of Time. Thus the system gets up-and-running and any teething problems get resolved before the public launch in the autumn. It will then be extended to other employers.
